So the 2021 racing season has come to an end. I thought we'd do a little wrap-up before we start heading into the "off-season" here.
We technically only ran two races this season, the opening day event on April 10th and the season finale on September 11th. We showed up for race #2 on May 15th after the scheduled event on April 24th was rained out, but our car was destroyed in practice before we even got to qualify. It was a season of struggles, bad luck, frustration and aggravation. I often feel like I'm stuck in this rut of bad luck that just won't end. For a long time, it's been nothing but parts failures, engine failures, somebody running me over, just anything that can go wrong...does. I don't really know how to make it stop, but there's times where I feel like we just go to the track and bleed money. I long for a day where I can just finish a race, load my car in the trailer in one piece and head home knowing that I can bring that same car back next race.
At the end of it all, it looks like we shook out 12th in the final points standings, out of 15 points holding drivers. Kevin Christie will be crowned the 2021 "Rookie of the Year". for those curious, he is the one who ran over my car in practice, under yellow, basically ending our season. Defending 2020 champion Devin Eierman managed to snag the points lead in the final race of the season, repeating his championship. the final points standings look like this -
Position | Car Number | Driver Name | Points |
1 | 6 | Devin Eierman | 749 |
2 | 18 | Dominick Hunter | 728 |
3 | 8 | Mike Duman | 690 |
4 | 21 | Paul Field | 658 |
5 | 75 | Bob Fulmer | 637 |
6 | 27 | Brian Wilson | 618 |
7 | 19 | Bob Monroe | 441 |
8 | 9 | Ken / Kevin Christie | 438 |
9 | 61 | Dave Larson | 394 |
10 | 22 | Joe Cavin | 360 |
11 | 24 | George Chambers | 309 |
12 | 68 | Tim McDougald | 120 |
13 | 23 | Scott Rinkel | 117 |
14 | 22x | Steve Woods | 83 |
15 | 5 | Ron Jackson | 4 |
So, we averaged 60 points per event. With a total of 87 points available for a perfect night, you can see we were pretty far off. Having only run two races, that didn't help either. Taking our average points total, had we run all 10 races, we would have finished 7th and won the "Rookie of the Year" title, which was our goal. instead, we got sidelined and are still eligible for that Rookie of the Year thing in 2022. Hopefully that effort goes a little better.
