So That's A Wash.....

Race #2 at South Sound Speedway was schedule for last Saturday, April 24th. Mother Nature had other plans I guess. 😒

After a couple very long weeks where my guys worked way too hard to get our blown up engine out of the car and prep the replacement loaner engine to go in, then a very long weekend to get that loaner engine in the car and running along with fixing the rest of the car enough that we could present it to the tech man, all while putting a setup in the car that might actually turn left, we were met with some pretty heavy rain the morning of race day.

I did my normal morning routine of heading to the shop to do a few last minute things on the car and then load it up. Half way to the shop I got the word that it had been cancelled. I almost turned around and went back home, but decided to go take care of those last things since I was already out. We needed to change the gears in the rear end and then fix a leaking hub that we found.

Now, let me say this, I'm super happy with South Sound Speedway for calling the race early. Major props to the track management for making a decision early in the day so we, as racers, don't have to waste an entire day loading up, towing all the way there, sitting around waiting and then towing all the way back home and unloading everything. Decisive moments like these are what builds a desire to race at a given track. I'm proud of them for knowing this wasn't going to happen and calling it early.

On the flip side, this one hurt me because my guys worked their asses off for two weeks and we weren't able to show what we had accomplished. And, to go along with that, I need every opportunity to gain points on these guys who clearly got a jump on me, and we lost an opportunity here. So, at the end of the day, I'm still 12th in the points. And to make matters worse, now I only have 8 more chances to gain those points back. Not good for me.

There's a few things you can't control, and Mother Nature is clearly one of them. I guess you could move where it never rains, but that has other issues associated with it. We will take the next two weekends to go back over the car and make sure we're ready, maybe do a little body work to that quarter panel I tore up and then be back at the track on May 15th. We've got a little time off before the next one, but we'll see you at the track then!
