South Sound Speedway has released the 2022 season schedule. So it's time to pour over the data! First, let's take a look at our race dates -
April 2nd (Season Opener) - Race 1
April 23rd - Twin Mains, Race 2 & 3
May 14th - Race 4
June 4th - Race 5
June 25th - Race 6
July 9th - Race 7
July 23rd - Twin Mains, Race 8 & 9
August 13th - Race 10
August 27th - Race 11
September 10th (Championship Night) - Race 12
So the first thing I noticed is the 12 races, up quite a bit from the 10 we had last year. A longer season means more time to make up points, but it also means more impact to the budget and more chances for things to go wrong. We all know how my season went last year, so I'm trying to be a realist here. I'm not sure I was prepared for additional race dates, I know my budget wasn't. Let's set that aside for now.
One key thing I noticed was the two dates with twin mains, April 23rd and again on July 23rd. Those will be big nights, twin mains tends to make things a bit more...hectic at the track. The other thing I noticed right away was how the season is separated into what I see as two portions. You have this first portion of the season where the race dates are separated by two off weeks. So you have a race week, then two off weeks to prepare for the next one. That happens through April, May and June over the first seven races. Then things ramp up as the dates start coming fast and furious shifting to an "every other week" schedule through the rest of the season. So you have this more laid back, easy going pace through the first seven races, then the final five races that pace ramps up a bit. It'll be interesting to see how this affects the feel of the season as we get into the later part of the schedule and start to feel that pressure mount.
Now the other thing that jumps out at me. I'm supposed to be in Montreal the weekend of April 23rd. I think I've got some discussions to have with my boss. 😉
I want to take a moment to thank my sponsors who supported me in 2021 and those returning for 2022 -

Seriously, I could not do this without all of your support. I am looking forward to a much better season than we had last year. Our goal is, once again, Rookie of the Year (yes, we had such a horrible 2021 that I'm still eligible as a rookie). Let's go get that award! 😎
