It's just about that time of year! 😎
So after a long winter that has seen a ton of changes to the car, last Saturday was focused on final setup and scaling of the car ahead of pre-season testing. We were kind of in a holding pattern while we waited on the track to get tires for the coming season. There's been a bit of a tire shortage through this COVID deal so the supply chain issues that are affecting everything are also affecting the race world too. After tires finally arrived the previous week, we ran down to the track to buy a set.
Our class allows us to have three sets of tires in our "inventory" for the full season. This is to keep costs down, so they track them. We will be making our way through this season with eight tires from last year supplemented with four new tires. We believe that these tires are not good when new and you need to run them for a bit before they actually start working better. So buying twelve new tires seemed like a bad idea, we'll work with last year's inventory since they were only used for a couple races anyways.
So the car is basically ready to go. We have a couple small things left to do such as setting the toe in the front end and then double checking that all of the front suspension bolts are tight. Then we are off to pre-season testing this Saturday, weather provided. Currently, long range forecasts are predicting rain this Saturday. But we all know that Washington weather forecasts will change eight times between now and then. so we wait and see. But, we can say we were ready! 😎
